Calasparra's First Female Mayor Not Seeking Re-election in 2027

Teresa García Sánchez, the current mayor of Calasparra, approximately an hour and 10 minutes to the north-west of Hacienda del Álamo, announced this week that she will not stand for re-election in the 2027 municipal elections. She shared her decision, described as personal and well-considered, on social media. García made history in February 2020 by becoming Calasparra's first female mayor during its 42 years of democracy, stepping into the role after José Vélez became the government delegate for the region.
